WEETS 2025 summit 5th edition, held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Ikeja under the theme “Ideas to Impact, Scaling Your Tech Journey and Building Entrepreneurship”. This year’s edition opens a golden gate for women to be empowered, rewarded and educate on how to improve their skills.
The convener of this program Ugochi Emmanuel, was interviewed by Seun Fakoya the publisher of The Eye News on the secerets behind the success of the program, Ugochi said “Let me say it’s all about steadfastness, It’s all about determination and It’s all about being focused” . “That is what led to the success of today’s event, alot of people would have pulled out considering the economic situation in today’s nigeria and I thank God we were not discouraged or we are not being discouraged”.
” We decided to move on, we made up our mind that we will not stop and we will keep going on until we get to the summit” .
“We had a dream for women and that dream is to empower women, both young and old”.
“By the Special grace of God, we have gotten to the 5th year and we will keep moving and not stopping”.
“Looking back to the huddles in the last five years, I don’t think I’m the one to actually say much about that, I would have loved that you call on some women that has been part of our program, let them discuss this very question”.
” It has actually been impactful, if you observe, for every edition of our event ; there is always a certification for those women who actually attended a boot camp”.
” We have a two-day boot camp we normally hold, I mean before the award itself and at very boot camp we empower young girls and even women who wants to be empowered”. ” It is not always for free”. “Initially, we were collecting 5,000 but we realized that most of them may not even be able to afford that 5K”.
“It’s been free, the last one we held on the 11th of September was free and a lot of organizations supported us to make it a success and we were able to achieve it.
” Today’s award, we gave out about 25 awards some to individuals while the rest was for private sectors”. “They had actually been very very supportive So it is important we appreciate them in our own little way by recognizing the good works they have done so far”.
” The journey of it started when i was with my former organization, i had it in mind and i called it digital woman”. “The digital woman has been one name i’ve kept long ago i actually thought it would be imbibed to be utilized or be used where i was but i didn’t find that possible, i kept it aside i said one day i’m going to write a story about the digital woman, what makes us digital in today’s world?, everything is about digitization”.
Without you being tech-inclined you are in the dark and again there’s Artificial Intelligence”. “For your information, artificial intelligence has come to stay in our society because of its functions but it still needs a human factor to operate” .
“This is where the digital woman comes in, every woman has to be digital and if I may ask, what makes you a digital woman?”. “Who you are and what you intend to become in life using tech tools and that is where digital women finds it self”
