CP ADEBOWALE LAWAL PAYS WORKING VISIT TO OKITIPUPA, ENGAGES SECURITY STAKEHOLDERS ON COMMUNITY POLICING

As part of the continuous efforts to rid Ondo State of crime and promote active public involvement in the protection of lives and property, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, on Tuesday, 28th October 2025, paid a working visit to Okitipupa in continuation of his Command-wide community engagement and security consultation tour. The visit underscored the Command’s commitment to strengthening collaboration between the Police and residents while fostering collective responsibility in maintaining peace and order across the State.

During the visit, the Commissioner met with key security stakeholders from Okitipupa, Irele, and Ese-Odo Local Government Areas, in furtherance of his proactive and inclusive policing strategy. This engagement, which marked the third in a series of ongoing town hall meetings, provided an opportunity to review security concerns peculiar to the area, build mutual trust, and reinforce the bond between the Police and the communities they serve.

The meeting, which commenced with the rendition of the National Anthem and an opening prayer, was attended by a wide spectrum of stakeholders, including traditional rulers led by the Jegun of Idepe Okitipupa, the Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government, and leaders of various interest groups such as the Okada Riders Association, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Vigilante Groups, Hunters’ Associations, and representatives of the Hausa-Fulani and Igbo communities, among others. Their participation reflected the shared understanding that community security thrives best when all segments of society work in partnership with law enforcement.

Throughout the interactive session, participants commended CP Adebowale Lawal for his proactive leadership and community-oriented policing initiatives, applauding his regular engagement with grassroots leaders and the visible improvement in security across the State under his watch. They acknowledged that his inclusive approach has not only enhanced public trust in the Police but also improved intelligence gathering and quick response to distress situations.

In his response, the Commissioner expressed sincere appreciation to the traditional rulers, community leaders, and all attendees for their unwavering support to the Command. He emphasized that policing is most effective when built on trust, collaboration, and open communication between the Police and the people. He therefore urged residents to continue supporting the Command through timely and credible information sharing, assuring them of confidentiality and prompt action in handling any reports provided.

While addressing the gathering, CP Lawal also extended deep appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for his visionary leadership and unwavering support to the Ondo State Command. He noted that the recent deployment of a gunboat to the State has greatly enhanced the Command’s capacity to police the waterways, particularly in the riverine communities of Okitipupa, Irele, and Ese-Odo, thereby curbing crimes such as smuggling, illegal oil bunkering, and kidnapping.

In the same vein, the CP expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Executive Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for his consistent logistical and moral support to the Command, especially the recent donation of operational vehicles to boost patrol and surveillance across the hinterlands. He described these interventions by both the IGP and the Governor as clear demonstrations of their commitment to the safety and security of the people, pledging that the Command will continue to justify their confidence through diligence, professionalism, and results-oriented policing.

The meeting concluded on a strong note of optimism and renewed collaboration as community leaders and interest groups pledged continued partnership with the Police in ensuring sustained peace and security in their respective domains. The Command reaffirmed its determination to deepen community engagement, maintain operational visibility, and ensure that Ondo State remains one of the safest in the federation.
